How To Upgrade Your Mini Laptop
Upgrading your mini laptop is probably more exciting than the actual buying, more because you would have to do it yourself, especially if your unit is no longer covered by warranty. But it’s really easy to upgrade mini laptops, even if your unit is not a Lenovo IdeaPad S10, Dell Inspiron Mini 9, or HP Mini 1000 (all units have easy-to-use panels for easy upgrading). You only need the right set of screw drivers and presence of mind.
Here are the basic steps to upgrading your computer.
1. Determine what want to upgrade.
There are basically just two items on your mini laptop that you can upgrade: the memory or RAM and the Hard Disk Drive (HDD). There are different kinds of RAM: DRAM, SRAM and there are also different HDD interfaces: ATA, SATA. Check the specs of your netbook’s RAM and HDD and find one that is the same but with a larger capacity.
2. Determine how you can access the RAM and HDD.
A netbook’s RAM and HDD are often found on the backside of the unit. Depending on the laptop manufacturer, you will find them at the same panel or at different panels insulated from, yet still connected to, the netbook’s internal circuitry. With some netbooks like the HP2133, you will have to take the whole unit apart. Whatever the case is, make sure to turn off your netbook unit before working. Be ready with your screw drivers.
3. Install.
When installing, make sure you put your new hard drive and/or RAM in the same way that the old ones were installed. You don’t want to go back and redo your work.
4. Boot your netbook.
Turn on your mini laptop. If it doesn’t boot, it can mean two things: the memory or HDD is not compatible with your system or you put the memory and/or HDD the wrong way. Check back your netbook again for any sign of misplacement.
5. Check Your Netbook’s System Info
To check your netbook’s system info, simply click on the setting stab of the main system menu. This information will show you how much RAM is available to mini laptop’s operating system.
